Sir,
This is related to the newly launched city bus service to the Outer Ring Road (ORR), as published in Star of Mysore on Aug. 16. While it is commendable that city bus services are improving, the Dasara mission to reduce congestion in the Central Business District (CBD) will not be achieved with this new routing of city buses.
I wonder why Mysuru city bus services cannot bypass the City Bus Stand (CBS). During Dasara, these additional buses will still pass through the CBD, exacerbating the congestion.
Star of Mysore has frequently highlighted the need for circular bus routes as a solution to the congestion caused by buses in the CBD. Implementing such routes would also save time for commuters travelling between neighbourhoods like Vidyaranyapuram to Kuvempunagar, or Vivekanandanagar to Infosys.
It would be better to establish two such corridors — one around the outer Mysuru and one in the middle circle — to eliminate the need to change buses at the CBS. Additionally, radial corridors from one part of the Ring Road to the opposite side, without passing through the CBS, could significantly reduce bus-related traffic in CBD.
I hope the Traffic Police will discuss this with KSRTC Mysuru Urban Division ahead of Dasara to lessen the dependency on CBS for city buses.
