‘Rising corruption hurting country’s growth’

Opines Ankegowda of ‘Pustaka Mane’ fame

Mysore/Mysuru: Expressing concern over rising corruption in the country, avid book collector Ankegowda of Pandavapura’s ‘Pustaka Mane‘ fame, said that the evil of corruption and misdeeds is badly hurting the country’s growth and prosperity.

He was delivering a talk on ‘Special experiences of Librarians and Kannada lecturers in their professional life’ at the Kannada Book Festival organised by Bengaluru’s Rashtrothana Sahitya Parishat at Nanjaraj Bahadur Choultry on Vinoba Road in city on Saturday.

Regretting that reading habits among students is on the decline, Ankegowda observed that such an atmosphere will make the youths to look at deviant ways for making money, rather than earn it, right from the day they join for work.

Expressing concern that such an attitude will lead to deterioration of the society, he said that the literary world is beyond the horizons of any religion or communities.

Observing that literary giants of the past used to think beyond their own castes or religion, he said that there were many examples on how this was portrayed in their writings. However, it is very discerning to note that of late writers are getting identified with their caste, he said.

Asserting that imbibing reading culture among professionals, especially among those in Government service, will help in eradication of corruption, he contended that reading habits will make students think about good values.

KSOU Librarian Dr. K. Prakash, in his address, called upon students preparing for competitive exams to make use of the University’s Digital Library.

Maintaining that the use of Libraries will make the student think different from his deviant ways, he reiterated that the Digital Library is of great help for students appearing for competitive exams.

St. Philomena’s College PU faculty Arokiaraj, Gopalaswamy PU College Librarian Shailaja, Lecturer Hemanth, MIT College faculty Lateshwari, Sadvidya College faculty Manjunath and others too shared their opinions and experiences.

Nataraja Degree College Kannada faculty Sandhyarani and Usharani, Programme Co-ordinator M.S. Paramananda, Bhagyashri, Sriram, Chetan Manjunath and others were present on the occasion.
