RLHP holds public contact programme

Mysuru: In order to highlight the civic issues of Rajarajeshwari slum colony, Bamboo Bazar, city’s RLHP (Rural Literacy and Health Programme) had organised a public contact programme at the  Colony this recently.

Addressing the gathering, most of whom were construction workers and other labourers, Senior Labour Inspector Geetha said that the Labour Department has established Construction Workers Welfare Board for the benefit of construction workers.

Pointing out that the Board currently has Rs.6,000 crore corpus fund, collected from the Labour cess imposed by the City Corporations and all other Local Bodies, including Gram Panchayats, she said that the fund will be exclusively used for the welfare of labourers.

Highlighting the importance of having an ID card issued by Labour Department, Geetha said the worker can visit the Department office located near Akshay Bhandar at Kuvempunagar and get ID cards by presenting the required documents.

Explaining the benefits extended by the Labour Department to the working class, she said that the Department was planning to advance student scholarships to children of construction workers in the near future.

She further said that the Government has ordered a survey of domestic workers and domestic helps in order to extend facilities to them also.
