Rotary District 3181 Conference begins

Mysuru/Mysore:  A three-day 4th Conference of Rotary District 3181 — ‘Sankalpa 2020’ — commenced at Dr. C.Y. Shivegowda’s USA Farm at R.T. Nagar here last evening. The occasion also commemorated the celebration of ‘100 Years of Rotary in India.’

Inaugurating the programme, Rotary International President Rtn. Shekhar Mehta asked Rotary Community to make a resolution to make India totally literate and open-defecation-free. 

He said that implementation of any scheme of the Government was very important. He commended Rotary for its service for 100 years in the field of community health, education and welfare of the specially-abled.

He recalled that Rotary took birth in India on Jan. 1, 1920 in Calcutta (now Kolkata) and expressed happiness in celebrating the occasion in Mysuru. He disclosed that a similar function is planned next month in Kolkata. He appreciated the design of the dais on the lines of Amba Vilas Palace to give a royal look.

Coffee Table Book

Commemorating ‘100 Years of Rotary in India,’ a coffee table book was released on the occasion indicating the social service rendered by Rotary over the ten decades, according to Editor of the book, Rtn. PDG  G.K. Balakrishna. 

The dignitaries were welcomed to the dais in a traditional was by an array of folk tropes. Students of Kautilya Vidyalaya, Teresian College and children of members of Kodagu Rotary Club presented a dance programme.

About 40 stalls were erected at the venue which housed electronic goods, food joint and several other products.

Rotary District Governor Rtn. Joseph Mathew, Rotarians Dakoju Ravishankar, M. Ranganath Bhat, A.R. Ravindra Bhat, Damanjit Singh, Sam Cherian, G.K. Balakrishna and others were present during the celebrations.
