It is a student-driven campaign to combat COVID-19
Mysore/Mysuru: Healthcare staff including doctors, nurses, Class 4 workers and the Police in Mysuru need Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)as they are on the frontline in containing the deadly COVID-19.
Healthcare workers involved in the direct care of patients should use PPEs like gowns, gloves, medical mask and eye protection (goggles or face shield). Specifically, for aerosol-generating procedures (for example, tracheal intubation, tracheostomy and bronchoscopy) healthcare workers should use respirators, eye protection, gloves and gowns. Aprons should also be used if gowns are not fluid-resistant.
Considering the dire need of PPEs and other self-protecting equipment in Mysuru, Round Table India (Mysuru Chapter), 41ers club and Ladies Circle India have come forward to raise funds through crowd-funding for the procurement of essential equipment for the safety of frontline warriors in their fight against this pandemic. They will be donated based on the needs of the Police and healthcare workers in Mysuru.
According to spokespersons from Round Table India (RTI), any contribution can go a long way in flattening the curve and reduce the probability of further infections.
“Every day over 10,000 Police personnel and countless other healthcare workers risk their lives to keep us safe. We are raising funds to give them the equipment that they need to keep themselves out of harm’s way. We urge to make a donation no matter how small as it could save someone’s life. Someone who is at the forefront of the battle of keeping us safe,” they say.
The crowd-funding initiative has been put into practicality by a group of 12th Standard from National Public School of India (NPSI), Mysuru and they have created a blog to promote the crowd-funding platform. “All our classes at school have been suspended for a little over two weeks now. With all this free time on our hands, we have seen in the media how distraught people are and how overworked the healthcare workers, sanitation workers and the Policemen are. As we sit at home, we realised that we must do something for the community instead of sitting idle and creating a crowd-funding platform sounded perfect,” the students told Star of Mysore.
