Row over play: Samiti plans to besiege Rangayana on Jan. 10

Mysore/Mysuru: Even as Rangayana Director Addanda C. Cariappa has cleared the air over controversy surrounding the staging of the play ‘Sambashiva Prahasana’ at Rangayana recently, Swabhimani Horata Samiti has resolved to lay siege to the repertory in the city on Jan.10.

It is alleged that while staging the play, there were references to former Chief Minister Siddharamaiah and KPCC President D. K. Shivakumar and both the leaders were depicted badly.

Representatives of various organisations like dalit, backward classes and progressives, who met at Town Hall here on Saturday, under the banner of the Samiti, decided to stage a symbolic protest, as Rangayana is disturbing peace in the society by indulging in the character assassination of several individuals.

MLC Dr. D. Thimmaiah alleged that the rationalists had a role behind depicting Siddharamaiah in a poor light. “They have enforced their opinions in the form of the roles in the play, belittling the contributions of a leader like Siddharamaiah who introduced various schemes like — Anna Bhagya, Ksheera Bhagya among others for the benefit of the poor and downtrodden irrespective of caste and creed,” he said.

KPCC Spokesperson M. Lakshmana said, “A protest meeting will be held on Jan. 10 at 11 am at the Oval Ground opposite Crawford Hall, before taking out a procession to Rangayana to besiege the premises. We will also ensure that no ruckus will be created during the protest.”
