Srirangapatna: A rowdy-sheeter was hacked to death at Palahalli village in the taluk yesterday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Vinod alias Kunta Vinu (32), a resident of Palahalli.
Vinod was proceeding to his farm house on his scooter yesterday early morning, when a gang of four miscreants, who came in a van, hit his scooter resulting in Vinod falling from his scooter.
The miscreants, holding lethal weapons, who got down from the van, allegedly assaulted Vinod brutally, inflicting serious injuries on his chest and head and sped away in the van.
Though Vinod was rushed to a private hospital in Mysuru, he succumbed to injuries at the hospital.
It is learnt that a fight had taken place between Vinod and others over a girl earlier and the Police suspect that Vinod may have been murdered over old enmity.
Srirangapatna Rural Police, who visited the spot, conducted mahazar, registered a case and a special Police team has been formed to nab the killers.
It may be recalled that last month, miscreants had murdered a youth named Dixit in broad daylight and in a busy place at Gandhinagar in Mandya over petty reasons and before the incident could fade away from the minds of the people, another murder has taken place now.
It is high time the Police take strict measures to control the menace of miscreants taking law into their hand and control the law and order situation in the district.
