Mandya: Srirangapatna Police have arrested 10 persons on the charges of murdering a rowdy-sheeter at Palahalli in Srirangapatna taluk in the district recently, Superintendent of Police (SP) Mallikarjun Baladandi told media persons at a press conference held here on Friday.
The accused are identified as Manu, 26, Chandan, 21, Jeevan, 19, Mohan, 20, Santosh, 28, Angadi Bharath, 21, Nidde Bharath, 28, Rajesh, 20 and Puneeth, 33, all belonging to Palahalli, while another accused Mahesh, 27, is a vegetable vendor, belonging to Muththugane village, Belur taluk in Hassan district.
Pramod and Abhishek, who are currently lodged in Mandya Central Prison, after their arrest in another case, had hatched the plan over phone with their friends, to murder Supreeth. Another accused, who has suffered bullet injuries, after being shot at by the Police, will be arrested after his discharge from the hospital, added SP Baladandi, saying that, it would take the total arrests made in this case to 13.
The rowdy-sheeter Supreeth alias Suppi was brutally hacked to death by an armed gang at a farm house at about 10 pm, to avenge the murder of one Prajwal in February 2024.
Following the murder, five teams led by Srirangapatna Town Police Inspector B.S. Prakash had been formed to crack the case. Eight of the accused who were hiding at a farm house in Sakkare town in Chikkamagaluru district were arrested on the basis of a definite clue, while two other accused were apprehended near Mysuru, said SP Baladandi.
Answering to a question on the increase in murder cases and menace of rowdy elements in KRS Police station limits, SP Baladandi said, it is being mulled to open a rowdy-sheet against anti-social elements. That apart, we will be monitoring whether they are active on social media and their movements, especially in groups and exerting influence if any.
Besides, Police patrolling will be intensified in this part of the taluk, said SP Baladandi.
So far, three murders have been reported in this part of the taluk, with the reasons being old enmity between two gangs and the act of vengeance. Suitable measures will be taken within the ambit of law to tackle such activities, assured SP Baladandi.
