Bengaluru: The State Government that had announced a compensation of Rs. 1 lakh each to families that have lost adult members to COVID-19 has tweaked the rule to give compensation only to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families.
As many families were going through trying times following the death of earning members, the Government had announced the compensation and had included ‘earning member’ in the eligibility criteria. Now the ‘earning member’ in the clause has been modified and as per the new order, only BPL families are eligible for the compensation.
Government has removed age restriction to get the benefit and all the families below the poverty line who have lost a member to the killer disease are eligible for relief. The policy would cost the exchequer between Rs. 250 crore and Rs. 300 crore.
