Rs. 5 crore from MPLADS funds, posts Nirmala on X

January 13, 2026

Mysore/Mysuru: In an update, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s Office posted on X platform on Jan. 11, 2026: “She has allocated Rs. 5 crore from her MPLADS funds for the Cosmology Education and Research-Training Centre (COSMOS Mysuru) project and laid the foundation stone in March 2022.

She was actively involved in the ideation and planning of Digistar-7 planetarium, envisioned to spark curiosity and deepen interest in space science and cosmology among the young ones.

The COSMOS high-tech 15-metre LED dome planetarium with an 8K resolution will be the world’s first tilted LED dome planetarium.

The development of the LED Dome and the civil construction are currently underway at the Chamundi Hill Campus of the University of Mysore.

The COSMOS planetarium is poised to become a new landmark for tourism in Mysuru. It adds a compelling new dimension to Mysuru’s rich cultural and heritage landscape – inviting visitors to look not just at history, but also at the universe beyond.

It will encourage tourism, create jobs and reinforce Mysuru’s image as a city that blends heritage with knowledge and innovation.”

A new landmark: MP

This major Panetarium project will add a new landmark to Mysuru’s standing as a premier tourist destination. It will open fresh avenues for local development while further strengthening the city’s heritage as a centre of knowledge. Once completed, the project is expected to emerge as one of Mysuru’s prominent tourist and knowledge hubs. On behalf of the people, I express my gratitude to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for her commitment to implementing initiatives that inspire future generations and contribute to long-term development. — Yaduveer Wadiyar, Mysuru-Kodagu MP
