Bengaluru: With just a couple of days to go for the deadline for the filing of nominations to the election for filling up three vacant Rajya Sabha (RS) seats in the State, the BJP top brass is likely to announce the party candidate later this evening.

The BJP, which has a 45-member strength in the State Assembly, can easily win one Rajya Sabha seat and the party plans to spring a surprise by fielding a party worker.

With appeals from the State BJP leadership to field a Kannadiga, the BJP top brass is likely to name Shivamogga district BJP President Rudregowda for the seat later today.

The Rajya Sabha poll is scheduled to take place on Mar.23.
