Mysuru: Thousands of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangha (RSS) workers yesterday took out a full dress parade (Patha Sanchalana) in the city amidst tight Police security.
The parade had been planned as part of ‘Sanghik’ (uniting RSS wings in the city). The RSS activists who used to wear khaki shorts earlier, changed to pants in October last year.
As a precautionary measure, City Police Commissioner Dr. A. Subrahmanyeswara Rao clamped prohibitory orders in N.R. Assembly segment where the parade was to take place, besides denying permission to the parade.
This prompted the Sangha leaders to change their plans and come up with a different route plan. As per the changed plan, the parade was launched from Rajendranagar School and passed through Shankar Nursing Home, Kurimandi Circle, Karumariyamma Temple, Amba Bhavani Circle, Shivaji Road, Paras Jain School, DVN Circle, Rajendranagar Main Road and Rajendranagar Second Cross, before reaching Rajendra Nagar 7th Cross Park, the culmination point.
Slogans such as ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Vande Mataram’ rented the air as the parade passed through. Addressing the gathering, RSS Veteran Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat said that only those who love their motherland, culture and great personalities, are the real citizens of the country.
Hailing former President late APJ Abdul Kalam as a great stalwart of the country, he said that Kalam had a vision that India should become a ‘super power.’
Recalling the sacrifices made by great personalities like Swami Vivekananda, Basavanna, Shivaji, Rani Chennamma, Onake Obavva etc., Bhat said it was important to follow the Vachanas of 12th century social reformer Basavanna.
Explaining the objectives of RSS, he said that the word Hindu is a symbol of nationalism.
Pointing out that the RSS was trying to awaken the society on the threats from Pakistan and other hostile countries, he called upon the people to dedicate at least one hour a day for doing service to the country.
RSS Mysuru Division Sanghachalak Dr. Vaman Rao Bapat, City Sanghachalak Vasudev Bhat, Corporators B.M. Nataraj and M.V. Ramprasad, BJP leaders L. Nagendra, M.V. Ravishankar, Mahadevaswamy, Arun Kumar Gowda, M.K. Premkumar and a host of other local leaders were present.
