RTI activist gets murder threat

Complaint, counter complaint lodged at Nazarbad Police Station

Mysore/Mysuru: RTI activist Gangaraju, who is instrumental in bringing out many land scams and shady deals by the high and mighty in Mysuru, has lodged a complaint with Nazarbad Police that a contractor flashed a pistol at him. The complaint was lodged on Sept. 8 night. Based on the complaint, the Police have registered a case against contractor Ramachandra from Kailasapuram and others as per the provisions of Indian Arms Act and the Indian Penal Code.

In his complaint, Gangaraju has said that on Sept. 8 afternoon he was travelling on a bike with another social activist Krishnareddy and had been to the City Police Commissioner’s office. After the visit, he came on the road where Sandesh the Prince Hotel is located where Ramachandra and his accomplices waylaid his vehicle.

Gangaraju said that some goons came towards him and assaulted him. “They abused me and threatened to kill me if I did not withdraw my complaint against an influential person from Mysuru. Ramachandra pointed the pistol at my head and asked me not to speak on the land encroachment issue to anyone and make an issue and also not to give any statements,” Gangaraju wrote in his complaint.

Interestingly, on the same day, Ramachandra too lodged a complaint with the Nazarbad Police Station that Gangaraju had issued a murder threat and had abused his caste.

The Police are examining both the complaints.
