Bengaluru – The State Government may cut fees for Driver’s Licence, Fitness Certificates and Vehicle Registration following widespread protests against the hike in January.
Sources said that Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy held a meeting with the representatives of various lorry owners associations and transporters during which a decision was taken to reduce the fees.
It may be recalled that fees for various RTO services were hiked by five times which attracted protests not only from various transport associations but also from general public.
The fee for Learner’s Licence was increased from Rs. 30 to Rs. 150 while the fee for DL was increased to Rs. 500 from Rs.50, including the fee for driving competence test. The fee for registration of new vehicle (RC) went up from Rs. 25 to Rs. 50 with an additional Rs. 200 charged for smart cards.
In the meeting held with Minister Ramalinga Reddy, the members of various associations requested for a three-time rollback in fee or for marginal hike. It is said that the Minister has agreed to reduce the fee. However, the revised fee list is yet to be announced.
