Mysore/Mysuru: Stating that the life of Pourakarmikas in Mysuru was better when compared to other parts of the State, Safai Karmachari Commission Chairman M. Shivanna said it is important that the life of pourakarmikas in other districts too should become better.
He was speaking after felicitating Pourakarmika leader N. Mara (who retired yesterday) at a programme organised by Permanent and Contract Pourakarmika Mahasangha at Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) premises here on Friday.
Lauding Mara for his Pourakarmika organisational activities and work during his 33 years of service in MCC, Shivanna said that other leaders should follow Mara for the betterment of all Pourakarmikas.
Pointing out that Pourakarmikas are exposed to health hazards, he said that it is important that they take all safety measures for maintaining their health. Highlighting the role of women civic workers in Urban Local Bodies, he said that apart from their work, they should also focus on the education and health of their children.
Condoling the death of two Pourakarmikas in Kalaburagi, who died of suffocation when they entered a manhole a couple of days ago, Shivanna said that he will be visiting Kalaburagi to get a first hand information about the unfortunate incident and added that he will make efforts for getting all Government benefits for the bereaved families.
MCC Commissioner Gurudatta Hegde, Additional Commissioner Shashikumar, Health Officer Dr. Nagaraj, Pourakarmika leaders Rachappa, Ramesh, Srinivas, Mohan Kumar, Raju, Arun Kumar, T. Murugesh, Nagaraj, Shekar, Cheluvaraj and others were present.
