Mysuru: With the District Road Safety Committee flagging road safety concerns and identifying accident black spots on key roads in the city, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has installed permanent concrete road medians on three main roads coming under MCC Zone-7.

The works have been taken up as a road safety measure ahead of the Dasara festivities, with tourists and vehicles expected to arrive in large numbers during the 11-day festival.

The medians have been installed along a 300-metre stretch from Millennium Circle, popularly known as LIC Circle, to the Torchlight Parade Grounds Arch Gate on Nelson Mandela Road; a 240-metre stretch from Fountain Circle to Government ITI College on the Mysuru-Bengaluru Road; and a 300-metre stretch from the Government Guest House Arch in Nazarbad to the Karnataka Police Academy (KPA) junction.

The median works were taken up by MCC Zone-7 at a total cost of Rs. 90 lakh.

In the next phase, median works will be taken up on the stretch from the Torchlight Parade Grounds Arch Gate to MaulanaAbulKalam Azad Circle, popularly known as Highway Circle.

The entire stretch from MaulanaAbulKalam Azad Circle to Sir M. Visvesvaraya Circle (K.R. Hospital Circle) and other key roads will also be covered after Dasara, it is learnt.

The District Road Safety Committee, headed by the Mysuru Deputy Commissioner, functions under the Karnataka State Road Safety Authority Act, 2017, and is responsible for planning and implementing road safety and accident prevention measures at the district level.
