Young and talented sailor Diya Madhiraju, who trains at Royal Mysore Sailing Club (RMSC) in Mysuru has been selected to represent India at the J80 World Championship to be held in Baiona, Spain, from Sept. 17, 2023.

She bagged her maiden silver medal in the recently concluded YAI J80 National Sailing Championship conducted at The Royal Madras Yacht Club, Chennai.

A class X student of Harrow International School, Bengaluru, the 15-year-old has been sailing passionately since she was 13 with her grandfather P.V. Giri, Chairman,  Siddhartha Group (Siddhartha Hotel and Windflower Resorts), Mysuru, who introduced her to sailing at the Royal Mysore Sailing Club (RMSC).

Diya had participated in the youth class of the Enterprise Regatta in 2022 and 2023, organised by National Defence Academy, Pune. She was honoured as the youngest crew amongst a fleet of over 80 boats and 160 sailors in 2022 and finished 5th in 2023.

Diya is the daughter of Bharath and Mahalakshmi (daughter of P.V. Giri), residing in Bengaluru.
