Samskruti-2019 at JSS Urban Haat begins

Mysuru:  A special handloom exhibition ‘Samskruti-2019,’ under the aegis of JSS Mysore Urban Haat and the Department of Handlooms and Textiles, is underway at the Urban Haat premises on Ring Road in Hebbal Industrial Ares here from Nov.22 which will conclude on Dec. 8.

Weavers from Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka have displayed an exquisite collection of handloom fabrics all under one roof.

Featured items include silk sarees, Ilkal and embroidered sarees, various regional special sarees from other States, dress materials, towels, floor mats and spreads and many more.

Inaugurating the expo on Friday, Textiles Commissioner Upendra Pratap Singh disclosed that it was being contemplated to organise such handloom expo at JSS Urban Haat throughout the year to popularise the handloom sector and to protect the interests of the weavers. He said that out of 46 stalls, 35 are already occupied which is a good development.

Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath, JSS Technical Education Director Dr. C. Ranganathaiah, Joint Director B.R. Umakant, Department of Textiles and Handlooms Deputy Director Lakshman Talwar, Cauvery Emporium Managing Director N. Muddaiah and others were present.

The expo will be open from 10 am to 9 pm till Dec.8.
