Sandalwood cultivation awareness prog. on Aug.12

Mysuru: Honneru Balaga has organised a programme on Aug.12 at 11 am at Belavala Farm on KRS Road here to create an awareness among people on cultivation of sandalwood.

Agriculturist Ramesh Balutagi of Kushtagi in Koppal district will educate the people on cultivation of sandalwood with minimum water requirement.

Ramesh has transformed a dry land in Kushtagi with scarce rainfall to a bountiful greenery resembling Malnad region by cultivating sandalwood, pomegranate, tamarind and other crops. He has developed an expertise in growing sandalwood.

Retired Senior Forest Officer A.C. Lakshmana will brief the gathering on forest horticulture and laws relating to harvesting of sandalwood. A sale of seeds and books is also arranged.
