Bengaluru: It’s now official. The 49 proposed new Taluks will come into existence from January 2018. The State government on Thursday issued an order for carving out the new Taluks including Saragur in Mysuru near Heggadadevanakote (H.D. Kote) and Hanur in Chamarajanagar.

The order states that the Revenue Department will coordinate with the Finance Department to open the offices required for the new Taluks. The State Cabinet, last month, had given its approval for carving out the new Taluks. The Deputy Commissioners had been directed to finalise the boundaries of the new Taluks coming under their jurisdiction.

The State government has formed new Taluks to take the administration to the doorsteps of the people. The State Budget for 2017-18 had announced the formation of new Taluks for ensuring efficiency in the administration.

The government issued a notification to this effect on Sept. 6, 2017. At present, there are 176 Taluks spread over 30 districts in Karnataka. The first announcement to form new Taluks was made by BJP leader Jagadish Shettar when he was the Chief Minister in 2013. However, it had not materialised due to the cost factor.
