Mysuru: The Annual Sarasa Translation Workshop was conducted at Dhvanyaloka on Bogadi Road in city on May 27 and 28 in collaboration with Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysuru. Participants from Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka attended.
Prof. C. N. Srinath, Director, Dhvanyaloka and Editor, Sarasa, expressed his gratitude to CIIL for their assistance in organising these translation workshops for the past couple of years.
Reiterating that a translation workshop was as important as a Nuclear Scientists’ Meet, he highlighted some of its merits to suggest how translation activity could be a rich asset. In a multi-lingual context like ours marked by amazing plurality and diversity, it could create a sense of one country and oneness, he observed.
Tariq Khan, Academic Secretary, CIIL, who also spoke on the occasion, remarked that it was a privilege for him to visit Dhvanyaloka. Referring to CIIL’s involvement in National Translation Mission and promotion of Knowledge Texts through its translation activities, he was confident that there could be plenty of meaningful exchange and interaction between CIIL and Dhvanyaloka which could be mutually beneficial.
Participants, who included both senior and younger scholars, writers, teachers and experienced practitioners of translation, took up poems, plays and short stories in Kannada, Telugu and Tamil ranging from Mahabharata to Folk Literature.
