Saree theft at Chamundi Hill Temple: Police dismiss RTI activist’s plaint

December 31, 2024

Mysuru: The Mysuru City Police have dismissed a complaint filed by RTI activist Snehamayi Krishna, alleging theft and black-market sale of sarees offered as gifts to the Goddess at Chamundeshwari Temple atop Chamundi Hill.

Snehamayi Krishna had lodged the complaint at the city’s Krishnaraja Police Station, accompanied by a video clip, accusing M.J. Roopa, Secretary of Chamundeshwari Temple Development Authority, of orchestrating the alleged theft of valuable sarees from the Temple and their sale in the open market.

Following a preliminary investigation led by Sub-Inspector Harish of Krishnaraja Police Station, Roopa and her staff were questioned, and their statements were recorded. Additionally, relevant evidence and Temple records were examined to see if there was a difference in saree stocks.

The investigation found no substantive evidence to support the allegations. Consequently, the case was closed without further action, as detailed in the follow-up report by Sub-Inspector Harish and this has been mentioned as a file note in the complaint.

In response to the outcome, Snehamayi Krishna told Star of Mysore that a formal written request would be submitted to Krishnaraja Assistant Commissioner of Police, seeking a personal intervention and investigation into the matter.
