V.K. Sasikala arrives at Parappana Agrahara Jail yesterday.

Convicted AIADMK General Secretary V.K. Sasikala drove up to the Parappana Agrahara Jail in Bengaluru yesterday evening where she will spend the next four years as Prisoner No. 9234, after the Supreme Court convicted her in a corruption case stomping out her attempt to become Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.

Sasikala’s sister-in-law Ilavarasi, also convicted along with her, travelled with her from Chennai to Bengaluru. Prison authorities have made it clear that Sasikala will merit no special privileges during her stay in jail.

Before walking into the prison barracks, Sasikala requested the authorities for certain facilities in her cell.

A request letter from her said that she should be lodged in Jayalalithaa’s old cell and she needed home-made food as she suffers from diabetes. Some of her other requests are a separate western commode toilet, 24-hour running hot water and mineral water. Jail sources, however, said that the requests will not be considered. She will get Rs. 50 per day for making candles in prison.

According to jail authorities, Sasikala will be lodged in a separate cell which will have a cot and a TV but no AC. She will also be provided with a helper  in the jail and food that is similar to other inmates.
