Mysuru: District in-Charge and Higher Education Minister G.T. Devegowda (GTD) launched ‘Sasyaradhana,’ a programme to plant 1,000 saplings in each of the seven Wards in Hebbal during the Environment Month.
By planting a neem sapling near Annapoorneshwari Temple in Hebbal, GTD launched a very significant programme as part of Environment Day celebrations.
This programme is jointly being implemented by ‘Sasyaradhana Samiti’ that includes Vidhyavardhaka Sangha, Navabharat Nirman Seva Trust and other organisations and the Corporators of the seven Wards.
The Samiti’s Convenor is former MLC D. Madegowda, who is leading from the front and efforts are on to plant saplings in vacant places, house premises, and by the roadsides.
The aim of the Samiti is to not only plant 1,000 saplings but also to encourage people residing in houses to come forward to nurture the saplings.
Neem, Honge, Kaadu Badami and other varieties are being planted. Tree guards will also be put up when the saplings are planted on the roadsides but not inside the parks.
The Forest Dept. will be supplying the saplings and the tree guards will be donated by philanthropists. Thus a lot of people are joining hands to make this a successful programme and hence more people should come forward to help, said Madegowda.
MP Pratap Simha’s wife Arpita Simha, Corporators K.V. Sridhar, Prema Shankaregowda, former Corporator K.T. Cheluvegowda, Vidyavardhaka Sangha President Gundappa Gowda, Secretary and former Mayor P. Vishwanath and others were present.
