School children vulnerable to stray dog attacks in Dattagalli

August 18, 2024

Sir,

This refers to the news item on stray dogs in Star of Mysore dated Aug. 16. For the past year, residents of ‘H’ Block, 11th Main, Kanakadasanagar, Dattagalli 3rd Stage, Mysuru, have been grappling with the menace of street dogs. The number of these stray dogs has dangerously swelled to around 20 now.

The situation worsens in the evenings when dogs from neighbouring streets join in. We’re increasingly concerned that this could lead to a dangerous situation, especially for the students of Rotary School, Kautilya School and Supreme School who pass through this road.

Primary school children, most of whom are under 10 years old, are particularly vulnerable and may be at risk of attacks when walking alone. Even cyclists     and motorcyclists face sudden, aggressive encounters with these dogs, especially when they form packs.

Therefore, I urgently request the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) authorities to take immediate and appropriate action.
