School teachers stage symbolic demonstration

Seek an end to confusion over transfer

Mysore/Mysuru: Seeking an end to confusions over In-cadre transfer of Primary School teachers, school teachers and  office-bearers of the District Unit of Karnataka State Government School Primary Teachers Association staged a symbolic demonstration in front of the DDPI office here yesterday.

Later, they submitted a memorandum seeking a clear and favourable transfer policy.

District Unit President Somegowda said that the 25 percent ceiling on transfer of Primary School teachers has created a lot of problems for such teachers who are serving at one place for over 20 years. Citing the example of H.D. Kote taluk, where teachers are confused a lot due to the complex nature of transfer, he said that the classification of teacher posts as Primary School Teachers (PST) and Graduate Primary Teachers (GPT) is all the more confusing and this unclarity has continued even in transfers.

Expressing concerns that the non-deployment of teachers in rural and interior parts of the district had resulted in a dip in learning capabilities of children, he urged the authorities for formulating a better transfer policy in the interests of teachers.
