School Van driver killed as van collides with goods vehicle

Nanjangud: In a tragic incident, the driver of a school van was killed on the spot, while 12 school children suffered injuries, when the van they were travelling collided head on with a goods vehicle near Kurahatti on Yedathale-Kurahatti Road in the taluk on Monday.

The deceased, identified as Kantharaj (36), after picking up school children from Hemmaragala and surrounding villages, was proceeding to drop them at Hemmaragala’s Gurukula School at about 8.30 am, when the van collided with the goods vehicle.

While Kantharaj was killed on the spot, 12 children belonging to different villages who suffered injuries, were rushed to a local hospital, out of which seven children were later shifted to JSS Hospital in Mysuru, where they are recovering.

Nanjangud MLA B. Harshavardhan, DDPI Mamata, BEO M. Narayan and other officials visited the spot.

Nanjangud Rural Police have registered a case in this regard and are investigating.
