‘Schools must maintain transparency in admission process’

Mysuru: A meeting of Block Education Officers (BEOs) and heads of unaided private schools of the district was organised by the District Education Regulatory Authority (DERA) in association with District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and the Department of Public Instruction at Kalamandira here yesterday.

About 600 heads of unaided private schools together with BEOs of all nine divisions of the district participated in the meeting which focused on admission process in private schools, stipulation of fees and compliance of Right To  Education (RTE) Act.

Resource persons briefed the participants on the aforementioned subjects.

Inaugurating the programme, DLSA Member-Secretary C.G. Mohammed Muzirullah sought total transparency in admission process at unaided private schools with no haziness or barrier. He pointed out that private schools only highlight the infrastructure of the school in their official website. He asked the heads of such schools to also indicate the fee structure for the benefit of parents.

He advised the school heads to honour Child Rights and not to dismiss a student if found wrongly admitted under RTE Act. Instead, he suggested that the matter could be brought to the notice of the authorities concerned.

DDPI S. Mamatha welcomed the gathering. Deputy Commissioner and DERA Chairman Abhiram G. Sankar released a poster on facilities available at government schools. DDPUE and DERA Member Dr. Dayanand and others were present.
