Mysore/Mysuru: As part of ‘Science Sanje’ event, Kalasuruchi and Kutuhali-Kannada have organised a talk on ‘Nature Tales from Seasonal Bloomers’ by Dr. B.S. Somashekhar, Project Director, Trans-Disciplinary University, Bengaluru and IINDICUS, Tumakuru, at Suruchi Rangamane in Kuvempunagar on Mar. 14 from 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm.
Profile: Dr. B.S. Somashekhar is an Ecological Scientist, Communicator and Science Writer. He received the prestigious Fulbright Fellowship from USA in 2009 and pursued his research in Environmental Education at the University of Idaho, USA.
With a formal training in Horticultural Science and Forest Ecology, he began his research career at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, under the guidance of Prof. Madhav Gadgil, a renowned Ecologist, and worked on “India’s Forests and Climate Change”.
During the last three decades, he has served as Scientist for National Project for Medicinal Plants Conservation, with DANIDA- MOEF- FRLHT Bengaluru, and spearheaded many research and educational programmes on forest conservation. He recently completed 3 projects in Western Ghats to study the impact of Climate Change on endangered plants. He is currently leading 2 National projects on documenting biodiversity resources in 700 Village Panchayats of Haryana and status assessment of forest regeneration in 108 conservation reserves across India.
