Scooter riding instructor among three arrested for stealing gold, cash from student’s house

Mysore/Mysuru: Kuvempunagar Police have arrested three women including a scooter riding instructor on charges of stealing gold ornaments worth lakhs of rupees and cash from a student’s house.

The accused are riding instructor 38-year-old Amrutha of Kuvempunagar and her friends 28-year-old Ashwini and 26-year-old Shruthi, residents of Chamundipuram in city. The Cops have recovered 160 grams gold ornaments worth Rs. 7.50 lakh and Rs. 12,000 cash, which they had allegedly robbed from the house of student Poornima at Ramakrishnanagar A&B Block. The Police have seized a scooter and three mobile phones from them.

Poornima, who stays alone, had got gold jewellery made for her daughter’s wedding and had kept it in the house. Her daughter is pursuing her education abroad. As she wanted to learn riding a scooter, she had gone with her instructor Amrutha on Dec. 31 and came back. When she opened the almirah, she found the gold jewellery and Rs. 20,000 cash missing and immediately lodged a complaint at Kuvempunagar Police Station.

The Police, who swung into action, began the investigation and after collecting technical evidences, they (Police) took instructor Amrutha into custody and subjected her to interrogation.  Amrutha is said to have confessed of making a duplicate key of Poornima’s house and with the help of her friends Ashwini, a beautician and house help Shruthi, robbed the gold and cash from the house.

Amrutha, who used to come daily to pick Poornima to give riding lessons and drop her back, used to observe the house. Poornima used to keep the house keys in the scooter dickey.

It is learnt that Amrutha after taking Poornima, gave her a different scooter to practice riding. As the house keys was in the scooter in which she had picked up Poornima, Amrutha got the duplicate key made. As she knew that Poornima had kept gold jewellery in the house and Amrutha along with her friends gained entry into the house using the duplicate key and robbed the gold and cash.

DCP (Crime and Traffic) M.S. Geetha Prasanna and K.R. Sub-Division ACP S.E. Gangadharaswamy guided Kuvempunagar Inspector L. Arun, Sub-Inspectors M. Radha and Mahadeva, ASI M.P. Manjunath, N.K. Puttappa, Nagesh, M.C. Yogesh, Hazarath, Suresh, Madesh, Manjula, Abhilasha, Ashwini, Krishnaveni and Sowbhagya in the nabbing and recovery operation.
