Scooterist killed in road accident

Mysuru: In a tragic incident, a 36-year-old woman was killed when a lorry rammed into the scooter she was riding near Srinivasa Talkies on Jodi Tenginamara Road on Monday. The deceased woman has been identified as Archana Naika, wife of Shivakumar and a resident of Kuvempunagar in city.

Archana was proceeding on her scooter from Highway Circle towards JSS Medical College Women’s Hostel in Bannimantap, when a speeding lorry rammed into the scooter from behind  resulting in Archana suffering serious injuries on her head.

Though she was rushed to the hospital, she died after sometime after failing to respond to the treatment, said N.R. Traffic Police, who have registered a case in this regard. The Police have seized the lorry and are looking for the driver who fled from the spot after leaving behind the vehicle.

Need for an alternate road for lorries: With the Railway authorities not obliging to clear the road near the railway track citing safety issues, the lorries ply on Jodi Tenginamara Road daily to unload goods to the godowns and also to transport goods from them. With hundreds of lorries plying on Jodi Tenginamara Road, other motorists and pedestrians are risking their lives while travelling on this road.

This has resulted in many fatal accidents on the road and the name of Archana has just been added to the list of those killed on this road.
