Mysuru: The two-day Mysuru district-level orientation camp for Scouts and Guides, organised under the aegis of The Bharat Scouts and Guides, Karnataka, began at Vidyavardhaka First Grade College on Sheshadri Iyer Road in the heart of the city this morning.
Speaking after inaugurating the camp, Bharat Scouts and Guides State Chief Commissioner P.G.R. Sindhia said that the objective of the camp is to educate the girl scouts and guides on values of life.
Pointing out that such camps are being organised across the State for the past few years in order to extend Scouts and Guides outreach and activities, Sindhia, who is also a former Karnataka Minister, said that the participants of the camp will learn about human values and service activities.
“Scouts and Guides, which was founded 120 years ago has now spread across the globe as a movement for creating a better and caring society through human development. The erstwhile Mysuru ruler Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar was instrumental in the establishment of Scouts and Guides in Mysuru at Baden Powell Grounds. Thought initially, the enrolment was only for British children, it was later opened up for all sections of the society. It is important more girl children take part in such camps and become educators of humanity”, he noted.
Mysore Grahakara Parishat Founding President Dr. Bhamy V. Shenoy in his address, told the participants to think over what they can do for the society.
“Maintaining cleanliness everywhere is key for health of the society. The Scouts and Guides can contribute a lot for the success of this campaign by educating the public against littering. They must ensure that the public develop a sense that streets and public spaces belong to them, which helps a lot in maintaining cleanliness and public hygiene. The Scouts and Guides should upload photos or videos to the MCC Website if anyone is found dumping wastes along roads and other public spaces,” he said while underlining the importance of ‘Swachh Mysuru’ campaign.
Bharat Scouts and Guides District Chief Commissioner P. Vishwanath, also a former city Mayor, office-bearers B.K. Basavaraj, Pushpavalli, S. Shivalingaiah and others were present.
