Scribes deliberate on social media and tabloids

December 7, 2017

Mysuru: Karnataka Media Academy (KMA), Department of Information and Public Relations and Mysuru District Journalists Association (MDJA) together had organised a seminar on ‘Impact of Social Media on small newspapers (Tabloids)’ in memory of Journalist late Rajashekar Koti at Vijnana Bhavan in Manasagangothri here this morning.

Inaugurating the programme, Kannada Prabha and Suvarna News Editor Ravi Hegde paid rich tributes to the contribution of Rajashekar Koti to journalism. Referring to newspapers, he opined that there was no difference between small and big newspapers. He observed that informations uploaded on social media could be misleading and create confusion among people. On the contrary, newspapers weighs and analyses a news item before publication with greater authenticity.

Continuing, Ravi Hegde sought a separate digital platform for Kannada Newspapers. He contended that such a move would also help to contain the expenditure in using the services of international search engines.

On the occasion, The New Indian Express Bureau Chief K. Shivakumar announced that KMA had agreed to institute an award in memory of Rajashekar Koti.

KMA Chairman M. Siddaraju, Secretary S. Shankarappa, Department of Information and Public Relations Assistant Director R. Raju, MDJA President C.K. Mahendra, Andolana Editor Ravi Koti and others were present.

The journalists presented their views on social media.
