Interaction on ‘Social concern in Journalism’

Mysuru:  “Scribes should come out with healthy debate on contemporary problems plaguing the society,” opined senior Journalist Krishna Prasad.

He was speaking after inaugurating an interaction on ‘Social concern and integrity in journalism’ by playing on a ‘Kamsale’ at the programme organised by Desiranga Samskruthika Samasthe at Maneyangala in Kalamandira premises here yesterday organised in memory of journalist late Rajashekar Koti.

Krishana Prasad observed that the country is riddled with corruption, scandals, harassment of people and casteism but regretted that scribes only focus on reporting without voicing opinions with a healthy debate. He opined that journalism is powerful enough to throw light on various topics.

Referring to frequent checking done by Traffic Policemen on streets, Krishna Prasad observed that the Cops only target violations by two-wheelers and not four-wheelers. He added that scribes should question that through newspapers. Citing another example, he praised Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) for launching Trin Trin bicycle-sharing system but questioned whether the real needy were benefited by the scheme.

Referring to Dasara works, Krishna Prasad wondered how Rs.27 crore could be accounted for Dasara preparations when visually people can see only hotch-potch patch works on important roads.

Journalists Amshi Prasanna Kumar and Mariappa, Desiranga Samsthe Secretary Krishna Janamana and others were present during the occasion.
