Mysuru’s Grand Master Girish A. Koushik successfully defended his title after securing 7.5 points from 9 rounds in the SDM Roto Lawyers Cup International FIDE-Rated Chess Tournament in Belthangady on Monday.
Girish, who remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, was level on points with IM M. Chakravarthi Reddy. But since Girish had defeated Chakravarthi in the sixth round, the direct encounter rule came into play and Girish emerged as the winner.
IM M. Chakravarthi Reddy took the second place, followed by Swaraj Palit who took the third place.
