Belagavi: The second day of the two-day Belagavi Congress session today (Dec.27), organised to commemorate the centenary of Mahatma Gandhi presiding over the Historic Congress Plenary Session at Belagavi in 1924, stands cancelled owing to the demise of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Announcing this at an emergency press meet at Belagavi yesterday night, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said that tributes will be paid to former Prime Minister and veteran Congress leader Dr. Mannohan Singh on Dec. 27 morning, following which he will travel to New Delhi to have a last glimpse of the late former Prime Minister.
As the second day of the two-day session on Friday stands cancelled, Shivakumar appealed the Congress leaders and workers not to come to Belagavi.
Seven-day State mourning
Following the demise of Dr. Manmohan Singh, the State Government has announced a seven-day mourning from Dec.26 to Jan.1 as a mark of respect to the departed former PM. Accordingly, all official programmes scheduled on these days stands cancelled.
