Seminar on ‘Law and facilities available to differently abled’

Mysuru: A day-long seminar on ‘Laws and facilities available to differently abled,’ organised as part of World Disability Day by JSS Institute of Speech and Hearing in association with JSS Law College, was held in city recently.

The seminar was inaugurated by District Disability Officer N. Geetha and JSS Law College Chief Executive Prof. K.S. Suresh who were the chief guests.

Speaking on the occasion, Geetha highlighted on sustai-nable living of the individuals with disability. She said that early identification and intervention was very important for appropriate development of speech and language in children.

Prof. K. Suresh, who emphasised on the facilities available for the individuals with disabilities and the support provided by the legal system of India for such individuals, later talked about the history of legal system for disability in India.

He further explained about PWD Act, RCI Act and National Trust Act for benefit of individuals with disability.

R. Mahesh, Director of Medical Division, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, presided. Dr. N.P. Nataraja, Director, R. Suma, Principal and more than 50 parents of disabled children along with 100 students and staff of various Speech and Hearing and Law Colleges across the State participated.
