Senior citizens take part in sports and cultural meet

Mysuru: Hundreds of the senior citizens from various parts of the city took part in the sports meet organised by the Directorate of Welfare of Disabled and Senior Citizen at JK Ground as part of World Senior Citizens Day, here on Wednesday.

Events such as 100 mts. run, shot put (60-70 years); 75 mts run, shot put (71-80 years); for those above 80 years, 200 mts. walking race, throwing the cricket ball were organised for men.

In the women’s category, 400 mts walking race and throwing the cricket ball for age group from 60-70 years; 200 mts. walking race, throwing the cricket ball for 71-80 years and 100 mts. walk and throwing the cricket ball for above 80 years were held.

The elder citizens from JSS Old Age Home, Kuvempunagar Senior Citizen Day Care Centre and other centres took part. They also took part in the cultural programme organised at Rajendra Bhavan.

The sports meet was inaugurated by Department of Women and Child Welfare Deputy Director K. Radha. District Welfare Officer for the Specially-abled H.R. Srinivas, Department of Physical Education Retd. Professor Ramaiah, Prabhuswamy and others were present.
