Samajika Nyaya Jagruti Vedike hosts a seminar on Caste Census; BJP OBC Morcha National President Dr. K. Laxman among participants
Mysuru: Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar has said, it is unnecessary on part of the State Government to conduct a Caste Census on its own against the decision of the Centre to conduct nation-wide caste census.
Yaduveer Wadiyar shared his views during a seminar on ‘Jati Janaganati: Hinnele-Munnele’ organised by Samajika Nyaya Jagruti Vedike, at a private hotel in the city yesterday.
Suggesting the State Government to toe the line, as the Centre would be conducting the Caste Census scientifically, Yaduveer said, the Centre’s initiative has the validity of the Constitution and is applicable to whole country. But the same exercise of the State is restricted to a particular jurisdiction.
During his previous tenure Chief Minister Siddaramaiah wasted Rs. 165 crore on Socio-Economic and Educational Survey, which was popularly known as Caste Census. Now, Siddaramaiah is harping on conducting another round of Caste Census on the lines of Telangana State, dancing to the tunes of the party high command, which in no way is related to the State. With this the previous Caste Census conducted by the H. Kantharaj Commission is thrown into the dust bin. Does the tax payers’ money spent on the Census has no value? asked Yaduveer Wadiyar.
The progress of Mysuru in every field that began during the tenure of Maharajas and continued during the modern era is a model for the country. With the fresh Caste Census announced by the State, we are going backward instead of moving forward, rued Yaduveer Wadiyar.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has several achievements to his credit including the construction of Ayodhya Ram Mandir. The issues encompassing the Caste Census is likely to be addressed, and the State Government should back the Centre, instead of charting its own course.
BJP OBC Morcha State President R. Raghu Kautilya said, the seminar is intended at exposing the real face of those doing politics in the name of Caste Census. The interaction aims to discuss issues conceptualised on the lines of Anubhava Mantapa, founded by 12th century social reformer Basavanna.
BJP OBC Morcha National President Dr. K. Laxman, MLA T.S. Srivatsa, former Mysore Varsity VC Prof. G. Hemanth Kumar, and others were present.
