Serial house burglaries in city

Mysuru: Serial house burglaries have taken place at various Police Station limits in city on Oct. 31, when the family members had gone out of station to celebrate Deepavali festival.

In the first case, burglars, who broke into the house of one Paramesh at Preethi Layout in Bogadi, have decamped with gold jewellery worth Rs. 3.50 lakh, silver articles worth Rs. 90,000 and Rs. 10,000 cash.

As Paramesh’s wife, son and daughter-in-law had gone to Andhra Pradesh, Paramesh had locked his house on Oct. 31 and had gone to his native place to celebrate the festival.

When he returned the next day, he found the front door of the house forcibly opened and when he entered the house, the burglary came to light. A case has been registered at Saraswathipuram Police Station.

In the second case, M. Yashwanth, a resident of Vijayanagar 4th Stage, had locked his house on Oct. 31 and had gone to Bengaluru.

The next day, his neighbour called him over the phone and informed him that the front door of his house was open. Shocked on hearing it, Yashwanth immediately returned to his house and on inspecting the house, he found Rs. 1.30 lakh cash and silver articles worth Rs. 10,000 stolen. He has lodged a complaint at Vijayanagar Police Station.

It is said that five to six house burglaries have taken place on Oct. 31 night at Belavadi, Vijayanagar, T.K. Layout and other areas. CCTV cameras installed in a few houses have captured masked burglars holding weapons and committing burglaries.

Despite serial burglaries taking place on the same night, the Police seem to have not taken any steps to create awareness among the public. As there is no systematic patrolling by the Police, burglars are committing thefts without fear,  residents alleged.

Meanwhile, Senior Advocate S. Arunkumar has urged the Police to take necessary steps immediately and instil confidence among the public.

Only two cases registered

DCP (Crime and Traffic) S. Jahnavi said that two cases have been registered pertaining to house burglaries on Oct. 31 night. But no complaints have been received regarding burglaries in five to six houses.

Steps have been taken to prevent house burglaries. Many cases have been solved and the accused have been arrested, she said and added that if other house burglary victims lodge complaints, action will be taken.
