Mysuru: The City Police are looking at all angles to crack the case where eight shops were burgled on a single night last week. So far, the Police teams have gathered some CCTV visuals where the clues have pointed out at the involvement of one gang that used one vehicle.
It may be recalled here that on the night of Friday, July 27, during Lunar Eclipse, burglars broke into eight shops in Kuvempunagar, Saraswathipuram and Jayapura Police limits. They had pried open the shutters of the shop and had looted cash, without touching any other goods including costly electronic items.
All the burglaries were not handiwork of regular lock-breaking criminals but burglars who have made use of technology for the crime. Burglars managed to open the shutters by tying the shutter handle with an iron chain. While one end of the chain was tied to the shutter handle, the other end was tied on to a vehicle. Later, the vehicle was started and it pulled the chain, forcing the shutters to open towards the front side.
The tyre marks of the vehicle were visible on the road. Some of the thefts took place close to 24×7 Police Check-Post on the Bogadi Ring Road and the personnel posted there did not even hear a sound when the shutters were being pulled with the help of a vehicle.
Investigating the case, the Police have procured CCTV visuals from the areas of the theft and have traced one car (black or grey) that has been used in all the theft cases. The Police have been able to round off the car based on the CCTV visuals captured from different localities and matched them with the time of the burglaries. All the burglaries took place between 1.30 am and 4.30 am.
Taking the burglaries seriously, City Police Commissioner Dr. A. Subramanyeswara Rao said that action will be taken against Policemen for dereliction of duty.
Speaking to Star of Mysore, he said that he has asked the Krishnaraja Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to submit a report on who were on duty and their places of posting on the night of lunar eclipse.
“After I receive the report from the ACP, action will be taken on Policemen who failed to prevent the burglaries,” Rao added.
