Mysore/Mysuru: Mysuru and Chamarajanagar District Arya Edigara Sangha has urged the State Government to set up Karnataka Arya Ediga Development Corporation.
Addressing a press meet at Patrakartara Bhavan here yesterday, Sangha President M.K. Pothraj said, “Ediga community has the fourth highest population in the State, but still are lagging behind economically and in education. Having 26 sub-castes, Ediga community is listed as Category 2A. The traditional occupation of the Ediga people was toddy tapping, but today no one in the community is involved in this after the State Government banned toddy tapping or selling, as a result of which many community members are facing a number of difficulties. Now, for the benefit of all 26 sub-castes, Ediga community should have its own Development Corporation. Community leaders will soon have a meeting with Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa in this regard.”
Vice-President of the Sangha Rajashekar Kadamba also spoke on the occasion.
Sangha office-bearers K. Raju, General Secretary K.S. Krishnamurthy and others were present at the press meet.
