Mysuru: Maintaining that divisive forces opposed Dr. S.L. Bhyrappa’s epic work ‘Aavarana’ unable to digest his growing popularity, linguist and former Kuvempu Bhasha Bharathi Chairman Dr. Pradhan Gurudatta alleged that certain intellectuals from the State stalled Malayalam translation of Bhyrappa’s works.
He was speaking after releasing Chintana-Mantana, a collection of interviews of Dr. Bhyrappa on the first-day of the two-day Dr. S.L. Bhyrappa Sahityotsava-2019 organised by S.L. Bhyrappa Sahitya Pratishtana at Kalamandira here on Saturday.
Pointing out that Dr. Bhyrappa’s ‘Aavarana’ provided a deep insight into all aspects of life, Dr. Gurudatta said that although the work became popular across the State, some intellectuals, out of jealousy, opposed the book.
Although many works of Dr. Bhyrappa was translated into other Indian languages, his works did not find way into Malayalam language as it was thwarted by certain disruptive elements, he bemoaned.
Recalling that he and Dr. Bhyrappa had been on a tour of Kerala, when they learnt from writers there that it was certain intellects from Karnataka who had come in the way of translating Bhyrappa’s work to Malayalam, he said that, however, now Bhyrappa’s works are being translated into Malayalam.
Noting that Chintana-Mantana provides a deep insight into Dr. Bhyrappa’s multi-faceted personality, he said that the book is a collection of interviews made by 16 personalities.
Observing that Dr. Bhyrappa has given detailed explanation to every question asked by the interviewers, Dr. Gurudatta said that Dr. Bhyrappa has also taken exception to some of the Court rulings.
Asserting that Dr. Bhyrappa has given a fitting reply to everyone who called him a Rightist, Dr. Gurudatta said that Bhyrappa has strongly defended his support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and has also sought the reasons for prolongation of Ayodhya dispute.
Pune-based writer Shefali Vaidya, in her address, said that multiple literary form, real and illusionary ideas and explorations of life can be seen in Dr. Bhyrappa’s works.
Observing that there cannot be another speaker like Dr. Bhyrappa, she said that Saartha and Aavarana were her most favourite Dr. Bhyrappa novels. While Saartha deals with materialistic and meditational issues, Aavarana dwells on life, she said.
The Kalamandira auditorium was full to the brim, with hundreds of literary enthusiasts from across the State and other neighbouring States taking part in the two-day event, which concludes this evening.
