Shepherd killed in elephant attack

Hanur: A shepherd, who had taken his flock of sheep for grazing, was killed, when an elephant attacked him at Hogyam Range in Male Madeshwara Wildlife Sanctuary on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased shepherd is Channegowda (48), son of Basavegowda of Yarambadi village, Hanur taluk in Chamarajanagar district.

As usual, Channegowda, on Sunday afternoon, had taken his flock of sheep for grazing near 114th CPT in Hogyam Range, when an elephant, which appeared from the thick bushes, attacked him all of a sudden and injured him seriously resulting in his death on the spot.

Meanwhile, the Forest Department staff, who were conducting their regular beat in the evening, found the dead body of the shepherd, conducted an inspection and reported the matter to Male Madeshwara Wildlife Sanctuary Director V. Yedukondalu.

Soon, the Forest Department officials, along with Hanur Police, visited the spot, conducted mahazar and shifted the body to Rampura General Hospital, where post-mortem was conducted.
