The ‘Shobhayatra,’ organised to mark the 110th birthday celebrations of Siddaganga Mutt Seer Dr. Sri Shivakumara Swamiji, arrived in Mysuru yesterday.
The Shobhayatra was accorded a grand traditional Poornakumbha welcome by Akhila Bharata Veerashaiva Mahasabha, Federation of Basava Balaga and Sharana Sahitya Parishat at the Suttur Mutt premises here.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Maleyuru Guruswamy said that Siddaganga Seer, who ascended the Gurupeeta of Siddaganga Mutt on Mar. 3,1930, has been working for children’s education by collecting donations from devotees.
He also added that if Siddaganga Mutt was known for ‘Anna Dasoha,’ Suttur Mutt was known for ‘Akshara Dasoha.’
Shobhayatra, which arrived at Sharadadevinagar Circle yesterday morning witnessed 110 women welcoming it holding Poornakumbha. The procession, along with bike rally, then passed through former CM Nijalingappa Circle, Vishwamanava Double Road and reached Dr. Shivakumara Swami Circle. Earlier the procession was flagged off by Mayor M.J. Ravi Kumar and Hosamutt Seer Sri Chidananda Swamiji.
The organisers have also planned to plant 110 saplings at various parts of the city to mark the occasion, which was launched by Mayor Ravi Kumar by planting a sapling near Jagadamba Petrol Bunk.
Suttur Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji, District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa, MLAs M.K. Somashekar and Vasu, Zoo Authority of Karnataka Chairperson Mallige Veeresh, former Minister S.A. Ramdas, former MUDA Chairman L. Nagendra and Veerashaiva Mahasabha President Basavaraju were present.
