Shoot-out case: CID officials intensify investigation

Mysuru:  The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials, who are probing the shoot-out incident, which took place at Hebbal Ring Road junction on May 16 morning, have intensified their investigation. Five CID officials, led by Dy.SP Chandrashekar, who have arrived from Bengaluru have grilled the then Vijayanagar Police Inspector B.G. Kumar who had shot dead Sukwinder Singh from Punjab, an ASI and four other Police staff who were reportedly present during the shoot-out.

The CID sleuths, who visited the spot, have questioned a tender coconut seller and a jelly stone-sand trader and have collected their statements.

Though the CID sleuths asked the Police staff What was the need for the Inspector to fire, was it inevitable? When other who had come with Sukwinder fled from the spot, the Police could have asked for a backup by passing the message through wireless system and surround them or could have summoned the Garuda patrol vehicle which was at the spot and chase the others, the CID sleuths is said to have got no satisfactory replies.

It is also learnt that the CID sleuths posed a lot of questions such as If Sukwinder had a pistol, why he did not shoot? Is anyone of you wounded? If wounded, where is the medical evidence? Why five Police staff could not nab a single person? Was the pistol seized on the spot? If yes, why is it not mentioned in the Mahazar report? If the words of the Police informant were trusted, why demonetised and genuine currencies were not seized from the spot? Why only the car has been seized and the informant let off?

The CID sleuths have collected the incoming and outgoing call details made by Inspector Kumar from the time the informant made his first call at about 8 am on May 16 till 10.45 am when he (Inspector) informed the incident to City Police Commissioner.

When the decision to conduct an operation pertaining to exchange of demonetised currencies to genuine currencies was made, it should have been brought to the notice of the higher officials as per the rules and should have documented the operation in the Police Station records. But why was the operation carried out without taking enough precautionary measures, that too in mufti?

When the person was shot dead by the service rifle and the dead body taken to the hospital, why the information was not given to the higher officials and why the information was not passed to the Police Control Room even after one hour though the doctors had declared him dead? What was the reason behind it? were some questions that were learnt to be posed to the Inspector.

As the Court has ordered the investigation based on 16 points, the CID sleuths questioned the Inspector and the Police staff.
