Mysore/Mysuru: Adding a new dimension to Mysuru’s rich musical heritage, for the first time, a Hindustani vocal performance has been recorded at Mysuru Akashvani for Akashvani’s National Music Programme.

As part of the Ravivasariya Akhila Bharatiya Sangeet Sabha series, city-based Vidushi Shrimathi Devi from Kergalli presented a Hindustani vocal concert.

She was accompanied by Sumit Nayak on tabla and Prasad Kamath on harmonium. The programme will be broadcast nationwide on all Akashvani Stations on Apr. 5 at 10 pm.

Shrimathi Devi is a noted Hindustani vocalist of the Gwalior Gharana and an A-grade artiste of All India Radio. Her musical journey has been shaped under the guidance of eminent gurus including the late Pandit Chandrashekhar Puranikmath, Pandit Narayan Pandit, Vidushi Padma Talwalkar, Pandit Vyasamurthy Katti and Ravikiran Manipal. She later continued her training under Vidushi Apoorva Gokhale, further refining her art.

She is a recipient of the prestigious CCRT Junior Research Fellowship and had earlier been awarded the CCRT scholarship by the Ministry of Culture at a young age. She is also a winner of the All India Radio National Music Competition in Hindustani vocal and has directly earned a graded artiste status. She has secured top ranks in Sangeet Alankar and Vidwat examinations.

Academically, she holds a Post-Graduate degree in English Literature with second rank and also a PG degree in Hindustani Music. Among her significant contributions is the ‘Nadapiya’ project, through which she has documented and preserved 100 bandishes of her guru Pandit Narayan Pandit in vocal form.

A multi-faceted personality, she is recognised as an artiste, writer, researcher and Guru. As a writer and researcher, she has published articles in several reputed magazines and journals.

Her music reflects a deep commitment to raga aesthetics, with a natural and unhurried development of ragas. She possesses a rich repertoire of beautiful and diverse bandishes, which come alive with emotional depth in her performances.
