Shun junk food, follow healthy diet: UoM Registrar Savitha

Mysore/Mysuru: M.K. Savitha, Registrar, University of Mysore (UoM), inaugurated a National Seminar titled ‘Ahaara Veda-2025’ organised to commemorate the 10th National Ayurveda Day at the Platinum Jubilee auditorium, Yuvaraja’s College in the city yesterday.

The seminar was jointly organised by the Department of AYUSH, Government of Karnataka, Government Ayurveda Research Centre, Mysuru and Department of Food Science and Nutrition, Yuvaraja’s College Mysuru.

National Ayurveda Day is being celebrated every year on Sept. 23,  since 2016, to promote and position Ayurveda at the global forefront of health care among other things. A souvenir  ‘AYUSH4U’ was released by Savitha on the occasion.

Speaking after inaugurating the event, Savitha said that cleanliness and food discipline is essential in the present stressful environment.

“We need to follow a fixed pattern in our food habits and stick to a strict time schedule. Apart from giving importance to nutritious food, one should have breakfast regularly and at a fixed time,” she added.

Emphasising the importance of having a good and healthy food habit, Savitha advised people to shun hotel and road side food and called for creating awareness among children about greens and also about the adverse effects of eating junk food.

Prof. M. Mahadevamurthy, Principal of Yuvaraja’s College presided. Dr. V. Prakash, retired Director of CSIR-CFTRI, delivered the keynote address.

Dr. N. Nagaraja, Registrar (Evaluation), UoM, senior journalist Amshi Prasannakumar, Dr. Jamuna Prakash, retired Professor of Food Science and Nutrition, UoM, Rajesh, Principal, Nataraja College, Organising Committee members Dr. Anthony Paulraj and Prof. R. Shekhar Nayak were present.
