Virajpet: International Badminton player Ashwini Ponnappa yesterday got married to businessman and model Karan Medappa at a ceremony in Coorg.

The marriage was commemorated as per the rituals of Kodava tradition. In the morning, ‘Eka Muhurtha’ was held at Kodava Samja, Ammathi, Virajapet taluk and later in the evening ‘Dampathi Muhartha’ was held.

Ponnappa was draped in a traditional Kodava saree, while Karan was dressed in ‘Kuppasa Datti.’ The wedding reception took place in Virajpet.

Family members along with Ashwini Ponnappa’s father M.A. Ponnappa, mother Cauvery Ponnappa, sportpersons including Tennis player Rohan Bopanna, squash player Jyotsna Chinnappa and Indian Hockey team former Goal-keeper A.B. Subbaiah attended the function with others.

Ponnappa represents the Nation at the International Badminton Circuit in both the women’s and mixed doubles disciplines.
