Madikeri: In another meeting at the ZP Hall yesterday, Minister V. Somanna discussed preparations for Madikeri and Gonikoppa Dasara celebrations. Highlighting the glory of historical Madikeri Dasara, Somanna said that due to the outbreak of the pandemic, it has been decided to celebrate Madikeri and Gonikoppa Dasara in a simple manner.
Pointing out that it is important for everyone to understand the grave situation created by the deadly Coronavirus, he stressed on the need for everyone to discharge their responsibility in a careful manner.
Though Dasara will be simple, the officials must give no scope for any lapses or shortcomings in the traditional celebration, he stated.
Somanna also announced that the State Government will release a total of Rs. 15 lakh for Madikeri and Gonikoppa Dasara.
Virajpet MLA K.G. Bopaiah said that Madikeri Dasara must be celebrated as per customs, while also following COVID-19 guidelines issued by the Centre.
Noting that the traditional ‘Karaga Utsava’ will take place in the usual traditional manner, Bopaiah said it is important to ensure COVID safety measures during the celebration.
Pointing out that 10 temples will take out Kalashas in religious processions marking Madikeri Dasara, he suggested that Dasara at Gonikoppa must be celebrated with the performance of Chamundeshwari Puja.
Madikeri MLA Appachu Ranjan wanted the authorities to impose prohibitory orders under Section 144 Cr.PC during Dasara event.
Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha said that in the wake of COVID-19, the authorities must ensure that there will be lesser number of people for the event.
Dasara Committee office-bearers Jagadish and Umesh Subramani said that though Dasara will be a low-key affair this year, the traditions and customs will be followed.
Kodagu Deputy Commissioner (DC) Annies Kanmani Joy, ADC Dr. Sneha, ZP CEO Bhanwar Singh Meena, Assistant Commissioner Eshwar Kumar Khandu, MLCs Veena Achaiah and Sunil Subramani, ZP President B.A. Harish, Vice-President Lokeshwari Gopal, Dasara Committee President Robin Devaiah and other officials were present at the meeting.
